This is Arthur, a spider made from the fearsomely hard African Blackwood with legs made from 2mm copper wire patinated black with Livers of Sulphur. He lives on a diet of hedgehogs, low-flying birds and is partial to very small children.
Thanks to Carla for her advice on the chemical patination. My previous attempt coloured the copper with a gas flame but this softened the metal.
Arthur, who is about 12cm long, has returned to the depths of Africa, well ... Johannesburg, where 4 dogs will have soon have learnt to be afraid, very afraid.
