On a visit to my friend Cathy in the Kwazulu-Natal Midlands, I noticed a wooden butter knife she had bought in the US and thought it might be fun to make my own version. I used wenge (a very hard and very dark African wood) though it is so dark that the grain tends to get a bit lost particularly once it is oiled. The darkness also made it hard to photograph.
I introduced a wedge shape to the view from the top if looking along the spine, i.e. the width of the handle tapers towards the thin tip. The champher on the handle is less pronounced that it looks and seems to have been accentuated by the angle at which i took the photo.
