This is the second armoured Thames pig made from an old, rusted fence post found along the Thames outside Cricklade. The body of the pig is carved from a piece of old creosote-soaked fence post found nearby. The wood tended to ooze pitch when worked and I decided to shape it with my trusty Mora Wood Carving 106, leaving the cut facets as a feature. The oil-rich wood needed no treatment. The ears were again made from the leather of one of my old shoes and the legs were carved from the same wood. The glint in the eyes was from a copper rod cut length-ways (see close-up below right)
The pig is now enjoying a life on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
