Here is Mildred, an armoured Thames pig made from an old fence post found along the Thames. The body is made from reclaimed oak and the ears are from one of my old shoes. The legs are twigs from the banks of the Thames.
In the next two photos, Mildred is shown next to one of Barry Downard's bowls made from a plough disc with a cast iron foot welded to the underside. Says Barry: "My pieces have been sourced from farms in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands region of South Africa. Surface rust has been carefully removed, and, in some instances, additional surface treatment or engraved patterns and motifs have been added."
Note the similarity of texture. Both pieces of metal have probably spent decades outside being battered by rain, wind and sun.
